Twitter is often overlooked as a business marketing tool. It doesn’t have the reach of the huge social media sites like Facebook and Instagram. Also, it doesn’t seem to easily lend itself to marketing.

But if you haven’t considered Twitter as a low-cost, quick, and easy way way to reach your fans, the platform is hoping you’ll reconsider.

They’ve already begun rolling out new features specifically for businesses, with the promise of more to come. Our social media management experts want to bring you up to date on what you can accomplish on the most popular micro-blog platform.

Twitter for Professionals

This is a catchall feature aimed at creators, publishers, businesses, nonprofits, and developers. In short, anyone who comes to Twitter for business as opposed to personal reasons can use it.

Twitter explains that they’ve created “one central experience” where professionals from all industries and sizes have “space to highlight their content, products, and services directly on Twitter for free.”

This is the first time Twitter has given users the opportunity to choose between personal and professional accounts. This allows brands to create a bio and promote their business separate from the general user.

Found in Twitter’s About module, Twitter for Professionals asks you to choose between two types of accounts: Business and Creator. The latter is largely aimed at public figures, artists, and influencers. The Business account is for those who want to market specific products and services.

Shop Module

Similar to shopping features on Facebook and Instagram, Twitter’s Shop module allows brands to create a dedicated showcase. Users can scroll through a carousel of products and tap through on a single product to learn more about it. They can then buy directly though the in-app browser, all without having to leave the Twitter platform.

Twitter promises that this pilot program, launched in July 2021, is the first of more shopping features to come.

Newsletter Module

This module, built in partnership with Twitter’s recently acquired newsletter service, Revue, allows brands to build their own newsletters and easily share them on the Twitter platform. The convenience of this module allows content creators the ability to link to long-form content from the short-form tweets on Twitter.

Uses for this feature could include articles, blogs, industry news, or anything you might include in an email newsletter. The module allows you to import your current email lists without having to start from scratch. It also offers a subscription option for newsletters so you can monetize your newsletter content.

Spaces

Another new feature from Twitter debuted in May 2021, the audio feature Spaces. Currently, like several of these new features, Spaces is still a work in progress. Anyone can join, listen, and speak in a Space on Twitter for iOS and Android. It’s not yet possible to start a Space on the web, but anyone can join and listen in a Space.

For now, all Spaces are public like Tweets, which means they can be accessed by anyone. You can, however, limit who may to talk on your Space.

Brands can either host a Space or join an audio conversation. They will automatically appear at the top of your Home timeline. Each Space has a link that can be shared publicly.
